Around the time new elections come up, the results are always predicted in advance. Experts give their best to calculate the outcome.
When the elections of the European Parlement in 2014 came up, it got me thinking. Google always gets a lot of credit as it gives access to a lot of information. It almost feels as if Google knows everything. But does Google also know the outcome to the elections? Can we predict the votes based on the history of searches on Google? Does Google know?
Based on search history on the various political parties, I deduced the amount of seats every party would end up with. In the end, I compared Google's guesses to the predictions of two experts and the actual outcome.
